Changes to penalty charges 1 July 2007
- Changes to penalty charges for parking offences

- Moving traffic and bus lane charges

- Parking in a residents' or shared use parking place

From 1 July 2007 fixed parking penalties will be replaced with a two-tier system of parking charges within the Greater London area. This is in response to public surveys showing that the majority of people wanted parking that causes the most disruption, frustration and danger to pedestrians and other road users to be penalised more heavily than other contraventions.
Existing penalty charges are:
Band A - £100 (discounted rate £50)
Band B - £80 (discounted rate £40).
In Croydon, the new fines will range from £60 and £120 - halved if paid within 14 days. The new system means that fines for some contraventions will be £20 lower than previously.
The new penalties to be used from 1 July 2007 are:
Band A
More serious contraventions - £120
Discount if paid within 14 days - £60
Less serious contraventions - £80
Discount if paid within 14 days - £40
Band B
More serious contraventions - £100
Discount if paid within 14 days - £50
Less serious contraventions - £60
Discount if paid within 14 days - £30
*Band A applies within the Croydon controlled parking zone incorporating Central, North, West, East Inner, East Outer and South permit sub-zones, including the free parking place areas adjacent to this controlled zone.
**Band B applies to all other controlled parking zones, off-street parking places and roads outside controlled zones.
The higher (more serious) contravention levels are shown in Appendix 1 and the lower (less serious) contravention levels are shown in Appendix 2.
