Creating spaces for people in Croydon town centre
We're transforming areas within our town centre to make them brighter and more functional. This project will take place from 2017 to 2020.
Ground art at South End and Dingwall Road
Streets have been brightened up with colourful ground art created by designer Adam Nathaniel Furman. They're inspired by his concept 'Look Down to Look Up', which takes specific architecture in Croydon and transforms them into fun patterns, colours and shapes.
College Road and College Square
We've swapped a parking space in College Road for a people space creating a new public space right in the heart of our town centre. The 'street park' provides seating and extends the public space beyond the pavement. Additional seating is available in nearby College Square, a soon to be popular pathway for theatregoers travelling to and from the newly refurbished Fairfield Halls when it reopen. Working with Central Saint Martins, a world leading centre for art and design education, the area is framed by two steel decorative archway structures, which will act as gateways at either end of the space.
