History
Selsdon Recreation Ground is based on an old field and is shown on Thomas Bainbridge's Map of 1800. The field is marked Joans Hole which probably refers to the old quarry or pit which can still be seen on the southern side of the area.
The recreation ground is completely surrounded by houses which have only been developed since the First World War. The site was purchased in 1927 by the UDC and was originally known as Farleigh Road Recreation Ground.
