Wandle Park was closed on Wednesday 9th January 2012 to allow work to begin on the restoration of the River Wandle, which currently flows in a culvert beneath the park.
In addition to the river, the park improvement works will provide a new playground, outdoor gym and bandstand, a new café, toilets in the pavilion and the creation of a new grand lawn. The park will also benefit from a new skate park and ball court area which opens to the public on Friday 11 May. Access to the facilities will be from the Theobald Road and Vicarage Road (Wandle Park Tramstop) entrances only, as the rest of the park will remain closed until December 2012.
