The Learning Disability Partnership

Background

We come under the umbrella of the Healthy Croydon Partnership.

The Learning Disability Partnership was set up as required by 'Valuing People'.

Valuing People is the National Strategy for learning disability. More information can be found on the Department of Health website using the link "Valuing People: The story so far…"

Purpose

  • Oversees inter-agency planning and commissioning of comprehensive, integrated and inclusive services providing choice for people with learning disabilities.
  • Advises on the development and implementation of the annual Joint Plan for Learning Disability.
  • Contributes to other plans and strategies, such as the Croydon Health Improvement Plan and the Housing Plan.
  • Promotes effective arrangements to enable young people with learning disabilities to move smoothly on from children's services.
  • Includes the Primary Care Trust, Housing, Education, Social Services, Employment Services, Independent Care Providers, Connexions and other organisations and has an advisory role to managerial and professional staff.

  • Ensures the views and needs of people from minority ethnic communities and their families are fully addressed and all services are culturally competent to meet the different cultural needs of local communities.
  •  Develops effective links with other agencies and partnerships whose responsibilities are relevant to implementing 'Valuing People'.
