Licence - street trading

Persons wishing to trade in Surrey Street market should contact the market inspector (see below).

Persons wishing to trade or busk in North End should apply for a temporary licence.

This is a requirement of the London Local Authorities Act 1990.

If you have an area of private forecourt attached to your premises you will not need a street trading licence.

How to apply for a licence

If the site has not been used for street trading in the past you will need to apply for a street designation order and a temporary licence.

The forms are available for download below.

We will advertise the application in a local newspaper and the public is given 28 days to submit an objection. During this time a temporary licence will be granted for a period of six months to enable you to trade.

If any objections are received the application will be referred to the licensing committee.

If no objections are received on expiry of the temporary licence you will be invited to apply for a street trading licence, which is valid for a year.

You should send the completed forms, together with the appropriate fees, to Community Services (commercial team), see details below. Cheques should be made payable to Croydon Council.

If the site has been used in the past you will only need to apply for a street trading licence, which is valid for a year.

To renew an existing licence by debit or credit card, go to the 'pay for it' link in the 'Do it online' section at right.

If you are applying for a licence for the first time please download and complete the application form and send it, with the appropriate fee, to Community Services (commercial team). Cheques should be made payable to Croydon Council.

Complaints

If you want to make a complaint about someone who is displaying goods on the highway please complete an online customer feedback form. This can be found via the 'Do it online' 'illegal street trading' link at right.
