Marriage and civil partnership premises approval

If you operate a business premises and would like to offer it as a venue for marriages or civil partnerships you should apply to us for approval.

After you've applied

Once your application is received, a licensing officer will contact you to make arrangements to carry out an inspection of your premises. The inspection will be to ensure that the premises meet the standards required by the conditions of approval in the licence guidance notes (PDF, 29 KB).

The council's registrar will also visit the premises to ensure that it is seemly and dignified for ceremonies to be undertaken.

The council's access officer will also visit your premises to ensure that the premises are accessible to wheelchair users.

Issuing your licence

Your approval will only be issued to you when all the above inspections and checks have been carried out and the premises meets the required standards.  The approval may also list additional site specific conditions. The approval is valid for 3 years from the date of issue.

If your licence application is refused or you object to your licensing conditions

Any person who is refused an approval, or who objects to any of the conditions attached to the approval, may appeal to Croydon Magistrates Court, Barclay Road, Croydon CR9 3NG.

We would always advise in the first instance that in the event of a complaint you make contact with the trader. If you are not satisfied with their response please contact the licensing team.
