Regina Road is one of Croydon’s housing estates in South Norwood. The area shown in the shaded area of the drawing and photos below (red line boundary), includes three 11-storey tower blocks, each with 44 flats, and four medium-rise blocks close to the tower blocks, plus low two-storey housing, a total of 191 homes.
Built in the 1960s as social housing, the tower blocks used the then innovative large panel system – a standard method at the time to address the UK’s housing shortage. Today, around 100,000 people across the UK live in homes built using this system.
Some homes have had issues like water leaks, condensation, and mould. While repairs have helped, further work is still needed. After listening to residents, the council committed to action. In Spring 2023, a resident ballot was held, and tenants unanimously voted to demolish and rebuild the estate.
The 191 homes within the designated ‘red line boundary’, area will now be redeveloped.
We continue to consult residents on the future of Regina Road.
