Road Safety competition for primary schools
Brighten your Bag is a competition designed to help schools promote Road Safety messages themed around good visibility to pupils, encouraging them to consider how they are seen whilst travelling and teaching them how to make themselves more visible to other people travelling.
First, schools choose their own date to take part between the start of term and the end of Road Safety Week.
Pupils are invited to get crafty and decorate their school bag with fluorescent and reflective materials to promote the importance of good visibility when travelling in the darker winter months to make sure they are bright, seen and safe.
To encourage as many people to get involved, any type of bag can be used whether it’s a drawstring P.E. bag, book bag, or even a plastic carrier bag!
Pupils who do not have a bag to decorate can take part by designing a brightened bag on paper. These entries will have their own separate category.
There are three categories:
- Hand-drawn designs
See https://stars.tfl.gov.uk/explore/idea/details/16 for more information. The poster for this year’s competition is at the bottom of this page.
Entries must be submitted through schools. If you’re a parent and want your child to take part, please check first with your child’s school that they are taking part in the competition.
Please note that the 2017 competition has closed and winners have been announced as shown. Next year’s competition will open in September 2018. Thanks to all who took part!
