The Croydon Cycle Hub is now open in Croydon town centre. Located in College Road, opposite East Croydon station, the hub provides free sheltered cycle parking for 80 bikes, including DDA compliant disabled cycle parking docks. Cyclists can also use the cycle pump and cycle work station on site, for carrying out small repairs.
Right next to the cycle hub sits the Brompton Bike Hire dock which stores eight folding bikes for hire from £2.50 a day. The Brompton Bike Hire dock requires a simple registration at bromptonbikehire.com, before being able to reserve bikes via both web and SMS.
The dock is part of a larger nationwide network, with members able to hire and return bikes to any dock up and down the country, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with no limit on hire duration. The folding bikes are allowed on Trams, Overground trains and Southern Rail during peak times so can be used more flexibly to fit in with travel needs. The cycle hub which is jointly funded by Croydon Council and Transport for London (TfL) is part of the ongoing development works taking part in East Croydon. This new facility along with the bike hire assists people to make healthier choices about how they travel into and around Croydon.
