Skip operator's permit

A permit is required if you wish to place a builder's skip on any part of the highway and only skip supply companies can apply.

After you've applied

It takes 5 working days to process a skip permit application. Once we start the approval process we cannot make refunds.

From 12 April 2021

A minimum notice period of 5 working days is required when submitting a new application. Make sure this is reflected in the start date.

Applications received with the same day start date or a short notice period will be rejected and fees non-refundable. Renewals require a minimum 1 working day notice.

The submission of a licence request does not automatically grant permission to place a skip on the road.

A licence application is submitted for consideration only and needs to be approved by the council before permission is granted. Please ensure the application is approved.

A licence can be refused if an officer deems the location to be unsuitable or dangerous.

Issuing your permit

Tacit consent, where you can assume that the licence has been issued even though you have not heard about a decision, does not apply.

If your licence application is refused

If you are refused a skip operator's licence, you can appeal by contacting the Licensing team.
