Mocktails, fresh juice or water? What'll be your drink of choice when you sign up to Dry January. Cutting down on the amount of alcohol you drink will improve your health, increase your energy levels and you’ll save cash too!
It is estimated that nearly 1 in 5 people living in Croydon are drinking at a level which increases the risk of damaging their health.
Dry January encourages people to stay alcohol-free for 31 days and this can bring both short and long term benefits.
The national guidance around recommended limits of alcohol was updated in 2016. The new guidance states that:
- The limits for both men and women are the same – which is to not drink more than 14 units a week, and spreading these units evenly over three or more days.
- If you want to cut down on the amount you are drinking, a good way is to have several drink-free days each week.
- There is no safe level of alcohol.
The charity Alcohol Concern has a number of resources on their website that can keep you motivated during the month. There is a Dry January app to help you stay on track, and a motivational poster you can print and tick off after each day, as well as information about alcohol and its effects on your health.
