SUGAR SMART is an exciting campaign that aims to help residents become more aware of the adverse health risks of consuming too much sugar.

In Croydon, we are working with residents, schools, colleges and early years settings, local businesses and other organisations to promote healthier, lower-sugar food and drink choices across the borough.

Obesity and being overweight are growing problems in our society, causing all sorts of health issues from diabetes to low self-esteem. In Croydon, more than one in three children aged 10 to 11 years are overweight or obese.

During the Great Weight Debate on childhood obesity in 2016, Londoners appealed for practical steps to help tackle the challenge – the borough going SUGAR SMART is one such step.

The SUGAR SMART campaign builds on Croydon’s Food Flagship programme which aims to ensure that healthy food and drink choices are attractive and accessible to all residents.

Get Involved

You can be SUGAR SMART, too! All you need to do is to make a few simple pledges to reduce the sugar in the food or drinks you consume or promote and encourage others to the same.
