Update from Cassup - December 2020

It has been a very strange year for the Croydon Adult Social Services User Panel (CASSUP). We began with our first meeting of the year in January 2020, which took place in the Town Hall. Who would have thought that our last meeting of the year, not to mention all the other meetings in between, would have been undertaken via Microsoft Teams. This has brought both challenges and opportunities.

Anish Patel

It is appropriate to begin this update by remembering our friend and colleague Ashish Patel (panel member) who sadly died earlier this year. RIP Ash you won't be forgotten.

CASSUP membership work

CASSUP has been working throughout the year to develop as a panel that represents those who use, support someone who uses, or cares about adult social care in Croydon. We have reviewed and made changes to our terms of reference and constitution. We took a decision to make panel minutes available via the website in order to better keep you up to date with what we have been doing. We have also updated our recruitment materials. We would like to expand our membership in order to better reflect the diversity of the people who live in Croydon.

How to join CASSUP

If you are interested in joining us, please take a look at the application materials on our Croydon Adult Social Services User Panel page. If you'd like to join, please apply!

Project updates

Due to Covid-19, two of our ongoing projects have been significantly delayed. Our public event, "Talking about adult social care (TAASC)", which generally takes place twice a year, has not been possible at all this year. We will be examining the feasibility of holding something similar via an online platform in 2021. Many of you may be aware that CASSUP had undertaken a survey of those in receipt of Domiciliary Care in 2014. We had been about to launch a repeat survey when the first lockdown happened. We hope that a repeat survey will be possible in 2021, but this will depend on the financial position of the council.

Apart from Covid-19, Brexit has been on many people's minds this year. CASSUP has been kept up to date on council preparations for this momentous change in all our lives. CASSUP was also involved in the council’s consultation into the proposed changes to the Housing Assistance Policy. We have given feedback on various other issues.
