London Borough of Croydon

Virtual School for Children Looked After

Description of Service

The role of the Virtual School

The core purpose of the Virtual School is to drive up improvements in the educational progress and attainment of all children looked after by Croydon, including those that have been placed in schools in other authorities. As children looked after are being educated across a large number of schools, the virtual school has an important role in tracking their progress as if they were in a single school

Why is the Virtual School needed?

Many children looked after enjoy school, and think it is important. There are lots of individual children in care in Croydon (and children placed in other boroughs) who are meeting or exceeding their educational potential. However, it is nationally recognised that children in care have poor experiences of education and very low educational attainment compared to their non-looked after peers.

What can you expect from the Virtual School?

September 2017, saw the introduction of ePEP Online enabling the Virtual School to better ensure that every child looked after by Croydon has a good or outstanding Personal Education Plan document.

The Personal Education Plan records our commitments to ensuring that every young person in our care has access to the very best possible education experience and outcomes. Schools, colleges and social workers can access the ePEP via the following link: https://epeponline.co.uk/auth/login?redirect=croydon
