Applications due to a medical need

Applying for a priority school place if your child has medical needs.

All primary schools are required to make reasonable adjustments to accommodate children with a range of medical needs. However, in few exceptional cases there may be reasons why a child needs to attend a specific school and this could be due to the child or parent's medical condition.

For the non community schools listed below, please refer to the school’s individual admissions policies or contact them directly for medical applications. Please note some of these schools do not have a medical admissions criterion.

  • Academies
  • Free schools
  • Foundation schools
  • Voluntary aided schools

How to apply for medical priority at a community primary school

If you feel there are exceptional needs for your child to be considered for a priority school placement, you must:

  1. Refer to page 28 of the primary schools' prospectus (PDF, 4.2 MB) for a list of community primary schools.
  2. Complete the eAdmissions application and ensure you tick the box for the medical form.
  3. Complete the online medical form (a link to the form will be sent in an email once you have submitted your eAdmissions application).
  4. Submit supporting medical evidence from a doctor, consultant or any other medical professionals with your online application.
  5. Ensure your supporting evidence states the reason why it is necessary for your child to attend the schools listed on the medical form and the difficulties it will cause if they attend a different school.
  6. Ensure your supporting evidence is submitted together with the completed medical form by the closing date 16 January 2024.

It is your responsibility to submit the medical form and any supporting evidence. No reminders will be sent.

After submitting your form

Based on the medical evidence you provide, we will decide whether your child will be given medical priority for a school placement. You will be notified of the outcome on Tuesday 16 April 2024.

New supporting medical evidence will only be accepted if the documents were either:

  • not available at the time of application
  • related to a new medical condition

You must submit this to school.admissions@croydon.gov.uk and provide the child’s name, date of birth and any details of the change in circumstances.
