Overseas and service electors
British citizens living abroad
If you are a British citizen, you can register as an overseas elector for a period of 15 years after the last year in which your name appeared in the electoral register as living in the UK.
You will then be entitled to vote at UK Parliamentary and European Parliamentary elections, but not local government elections, so you will not be able to voite in local elctions in the London Borough of Croydon, for the Mayor of London or to the Greater London Assembly.
Once an application has been approved, it must be renewed every year. The electoral services office will send overseas electors a reminder form for this purpose.

Crown servants and British Council employees are classed as service voters. Their declarations and those of their spouses do not require proof.
