Whistleblowing Policy and Procedure

This policy and procedure is intended to ensure that a suspicion of wrongdoing can be raised without fear of reprisals and provide information about how the Council will respond.

We have a set of values that we ask everyone to follow and work by. These values sit underneath and inform our staff code of conduct and HR policies – policies that all staff are asked to follow. We know from feedback that these values are not always followed and that there are cases of behaviour that have caused concern and distress to others.

Whistleblowing is when someone raises a concern about a possible fraud, crime, danger or other serious risk in relation to the Council and its services. People who have such concerns should be able to raise them without fear of victimisation, discrimination or disadvantage.

This policy and procedure enables suspicions of wrongdoing to be raised without fear of reprisals and gives information about how we will respond.
