The public sector duties within the Equality Act 2010 has passed into law from April 2011. The new Act creates a new general equality duty where the council must pay due regard to eliminating unlawful discrimination, advancing equality of opportunity and fostering good relations. It applies to all our functions - policy, planning, service delivery, partnerships, commissioning and employment.
The council has an important role in creating a fair society through the services we provide, the people we employ and the money we spend. Equality is integral to everything the council does. We are committed to making Croydon a place of opportunity where everyone can belong, addressing the needs and aspirations of all those who live and work in the borough.
