2020 Civic Awards

Celebrating community heroes across the borough.

The Mayor of Croydon Civic Awards celebrate community heroes across the borough – the volunteers, community groups, local partners and businesses dedicated to helping others.

Nominations have now closed. All nominees will be notified they were put forward. Finalists and winners will be announced at a ceremony on 31 March.

Mayor or Croydon Civic Awards 2020 categories

Business in the Community

This award recognises companies or entrepreneurs that put Croydon’s community at the heart of what they do. They could be a certified Croydon 'Good Employer', doing business responsibly and supporting our local economy through using local supply chains, creating job opportunities, ensuring employees are paid a fair wage and promoting equality and diversity. Social enterprises or charitable organisations should enter our Charity of the Year category.

New for 2019, Charity of the Year

Open to charitable organisations or social enterprises doing incredible work to support our local communities. Entrants should be Croydon-based or their nomination focus on a project happening in Croydon.

Contribution to Sport and Healthy Living

Celebrating the enthusiasm and dedication of individuals and organisations in Croydon who help people live healthier lives. They could be a sports group, someone who runs a class or an initiative that gets people outdoors  

Don’t Mess with Croydon – Take Pride

This award recognises residents who dedicate their time and energy keeping Croydon clean and green. They may organise litter picks, have created a community garden, painted local spaces, up-cycled or encouraged others to recycle.

Good Neighbour

Everybody needs a good neighbour. This category says thank you to the people who are so supportive to the people they live near. Whether it’s checking in on a vulnerable person, running errands, offering a listening ear or companionship to someone who’s lonely. 

Outstanding Contribution to Foster Care

Launched in 2018 to say thank you to the people who make a huge difference to the lives of children and young people in Croydon; Outstanding Contribution to Foster Care recognises our very special foster carers.

Stronger Together

This award recognises a community group or organisation that has helped to bring together cultures and communities through a local project or community event. It’s also open to faith groups and organisations who reach out through befriending and other social activities.

Young Achiever

Croydon is home to more young people than any other London borough and we’re passionate about celebrating them. This very special award puts the spotlight on the remarkable young people in our borough who are making an impact. The winner of this award could be a young person who has overcome personal difficulties and now helps others to make good choices; or someone who organises out-of-school activities to divert young people away from crime; or an outstanding apprentice.

Volunteer of the Year

There are some very special individuals in Croydon who selflessly give their time to help others. Volunteer of the Year recognises an outstanding volunteer or fundraiser who has made a positive impact in Croydon.

Voluntary Group of the Year

This category recognises a group of people who’ve made an outstanding contribution to Croydon through volunteering. 

The Mayor of Croydon will also select a recipient of their Lifetime Contribution Award - to recognise a group or individual who has given so much to Croydon over many years. This award is not up for general nomination.
