The voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector includes a wide variety of not-for-profit organisations.
We are committed to supporting a vibrant, innovative and effective VCSE sector. We recognise the independence of the sector and its unique role in helping local people to express their needs and develop services to meet these needs.
We do this through community asset transfer, funding opportunities and discretionary rate relief (see the links to the left). We may also provide support through:
- making loans for purposes which would not be covered by a funding programme,
- leasing our premises at an economic rent,
- giving advice,
- supporting bids to other funding agencies.
In 2003, we signed up to the Croydon Compact, a set of shared principles underpinning the relationship between ourselves, the Croydon Health Authority (now Croydon NHS) and the local voluntary sector.
The principles set out in the compact have been embedded in the way our Local Strategic Partnership works. This is a partnership between the public, business and third sectors that takes an overall view of the borough. Its priorities are set out in Croydon's community strategy 2013-2018.
The Local Strategic Partnership asked Croydon Voluntary Action to develop a new compact, this can be downloaded below. It was endorsed by cabinet on 15 July 2013 and subsequently by the other organisations within the Local Strategic Partnership.
We are committed to supporting a vibrant, innovative and effective VCSE sector. The council has funding pots to enable us to do this.
