This fund is closed whilst we put our resources into supporting the council’s Covid-19 emergency fund.

The council’s Croydon Green Fund provides funding support for projects, activities and initiatives that promote environmental protection, green living and a sustainable lifestyle in Croydon.

Funding is available to voluntary organisations delivering either small/medium projects within Croydon that require £1,000 to £15,000, or medium/large projects within Croydon requiring £15,001 to £50,000.

The fund is open to applications that extend beyond 1 year. Multi-year bids will be awarded on an indicative basis, and will be subject to performance.

Project delivery

Projects must take place in Croydon, and should deliver an environmental benefit linked to at least 1 of the following priority areas:

  • environmental protection
  • green living
  • sustainable lifestyles

Projects should also demonstrate, using clear evidence, a link to the priorities outlined in our Corporate Plan.

For example:

  • reducing social isolation and creating a greater sense of community involvement
  • creating an environment where our young people thrive and reach their full potential
  • providing volunteering opportunities, particularly hard to reach groups

Organisations should be non-profit and be at least informally constituted, which means having a bank account in the name of the group with a minimum of 2 signatories.  Funding cannot be used to pay staff.

There is no requirement for match funding however this will be viewed favourably as part of an application, particularly if the funding has already been received and the source of these funds comes from outside of the borough.

Funding from other council sources is not considered as part of match funding.

Initiatives should be run in a way that reflects the values of the council, and not duplicate any existing council-led activities.

For awards of up to £15,000 an annual report will be required that provides an update of progress against agreed objectives. This may be followed up by additional meetings.

For awards in excess of £15,000, a progress report is required every 6 months, alongside an annual review meeting with the council

You can apply to the fund now. Applications will be reviewed, and grants made 3 times each year, and confirmed by email.

The funding decisions will be made by the Communities team in consultation with the Cabinet Member for the Environment, Transport and Regeneration.
