Asylum Seeker Support Fund

The purpose of this funding is to provide support to individuals and families who have been placed into accommodation within Croydon by the Home Office while their asylum claim is processed.

With the increasing numbers of Displaced People entering the UK under different schemes, there is a need to ensure that those seeking Asylum in the UK are supported whilst their claims are assessed for processing by the Home Office. The Home Office have provided funding to ensure that support can be provided to assist Asylum Seekers that have been placed in hotels and hostels in Croydon. By providing additional activities and opportunities for learning it is intended that it will support the wellbeing of those that are required to stay in these facilities.

Who can apply?

This funding is intended for Voluntary, Community and Faith Sector (VCFS) organisations who are able to provide assistance to asylum seekers  placed in Croydon hotels and hostels by the Home Office. .

A grant of up to £5,000 can be used for – but is not limited to:

  • Reducing social isolation.
  • Support to link people to existing faith-based activities and groups in the borough.
  • Additional educational activities for adults and children outside of school times including school holidays.
  • Cultural enrichment activities including linking with existing VSCF organisations.
  • Signposting and support to access community resources and education settings including, children’s centres, early years, CALAT.
  • Youth activities including sport, arts and social contacts.
  • Support to apply for school places where needed.   

VCFS organisations are invited to bring forward other innovative proposals, explaining how these will meet the overall grant purpose set out above.

Bidders should note that most of the people served by these grants are based in the North of the Borough

Organisations should be non-profit and be at least informally constituted, which means having a bank account in the name of the group with a minimum of 2 signatories.

This funding is to be used between December 2022 until the end of March 2023

We anticipate that a second invitation to apply for a grant will be released in February to commence in April 2023

Funding cannot be used to pay staff or pay for mortgage arrears.


This fund is open from the 21st November to the 2nd December 2022 for VCS organisations to apply.

Applications will be reviewed and confirmed by email with decisions in principle by 9th December 2022.

The funding decisions will be made by the Communities team in consultation with the Cabinet Member for Communities, Safety and Business Recovery.
