If you run a lottery to raise funds for a charity or an organisation such as a sports club, church or school, you must have a registration.
The maximum funds raised in any one lottery must not exceed £20,000 or a maximum of £250,000 in one year.
The registration is valid for a year from the date it is granted.
Please note if the renewal fee is not paid within one month of the due date the registration will lapse and if you wish to hold future lotteries a new application will be required.
How to apply for a new registration
Download the application form below and once completed send it to the licensing team at the address below together with a cheque for £40. Cheques should be made payable to Croydon Council.
Will tacit consent apply?
No. The registration will be issued to you when all the necessary checks have been carried out.
If you already hold a registration you must notify the council each time you hold a lottery. Please download the returns form below and once completed send it to the licensing team at the address below.
If you already hold a registration you will automatically be sent a renewal letter approximately one month before the expiry date. You can pay your renewal fee online. The fee for renewal is £20.
Please note that if you do not pay the renewal fee within one month of the expiry date the registration will lapse and you will have to make a fresh application.
Alternatively payment can now be made over the telephone by credit or debit card, if you would like to use this facility please telephone 020 8760 5466. Please note a surcharge of 1.65% will be payable for payments made by credit card, there is no charge for debit card payments.
Failed application redress
Any person who is refused a registration can appeal to the Croydon Magistrates Court, Barclay Road, Croydon CR9 3NG.
Licence holder redress
Any registration holder who objects to any of the conditions attached to a registration may appeal to the Croydon Magistrates Court, Barclay Road, Croydon CR9 3NG.
