Licence summary

Premises where horses are hired out for riding or riding instruction must have a licence.

Eligibility criteria

The licence operates from 1 January to the 31 December.

Applicants for a licence must not be disqualified from keeping a riding establishment.

How to apply

If you are applying for a new licence you can apply online.

If you prefer to apply by post please download the application form and once completed send it to the licensing team at the address below.

The annual fee is £358, this will be apportioned according to when the application is received.

Application evaluation process

Once your application is received, a licensing officer will contact you to make arrangements to carry out an inspection of your premises. The officer will be accompanied by an approved vet who will set the licensing conditions.

Will tacit consent apply?

No. Your licence will only be issued to you when all the necessary inspections /checks have been carried out and the premise meets the required standards.

Failed application redress

Any person who is refused a licence can appeal to the Croydon Magistrates Court, Barclay Road, Croydon CR9 3NG.

Licence holder redress

Any licence holder who objects to any of the licensing conditions attached to a licence may appeal to the Croydon Magistrates Court, Barclay Road, Croydon CR9 3NG.
