Croydon discretionary support

You can apply to the Croydon discretionary support team if you are in financial hardship and need help with food.  We can refer you to the local food bank
We do not issue cash payments. 

What is not covered

Croydon discretionary support cannot be used to pay for:

  • day to day living costs by means of a cash payment into your bank account
  • washing machines, microwaves, televisions and furniture
  • fuel (contact your fuel provider to check what support is available)
  • essential goods
  • rent in advance
  • removals
  • travel expenses


To be considered:

  • you must have lived in Croydon for at least 3 months or are moving into Croydon from certain institutions
  • you must be over 16 years of age

You must also receive, or be due to receive, at least one of the following benefits:

  • Income Support
  • Jobseekers Allowance
  • Employment and Support Allowance
  • any disability benefit
  • Housing Benefit
  • Council Tax Support
  • Pension Credit
  • Universal credit

What you need before you apply

You will need to provide the following evidence to support the request for food help:

  • identification
  • mini bank statement
