Laid across a road, rumble strips cause tyre noise and vibration and provide drivers with an audible and tactile warning of a hazard ahead.
However, due to considerable objections by residents to the noise caused by rumble strips, they are not used in the borough. It is felt they are better suited to rural settings than residential areas.
