Child Pedestrian Training

Following the success of the national 'Kerbcraft' scheme, Croydon has introduced a similar child pedestrian training (CPT) scheme for year 1 pupils.

Working in partnership with Kerbcraft,  the new CPT comprises six on-street training sessions offering intensive instruction in basic road safety skills. The courses are run by the council's professional trainers, with a maximum of three pupils per trainer. Training includes:

  • teaching the right approach when stopping at the kerb
  • how to cross a road when there are parked vehicles
  • identifying the correct procedures at junctions.

The scheme is targeted at wards with higher than average child pedestrian injury collision records.
