Tram works 21 - 30 August 2010

The work involves welding metal on to the tram rail and then grinding to smooth it off. This is an essential part of Tramlink’s maintenance work to extend the life of the rail. This work will involve noise and additional lighting will be brought in to light the worksites.

Tram services

As a result of work taking place at these, and other sites in the town centre, tram services will be suspended on the loop between Saturday 21 and Monday 30 August inclusive. Trams from Wimbledon will terminate at Reeves Corner and trams from New Addington, Elmers End and Beckenham Junction will terminate at East Croydon. Centrale, West Croydon, Wellesley Road, George Street and Church Street tram stops will be closed. Valid tickets and Oyster cards will be accepted on local buses and pedestrian route signage will be installed throughout the town centre.

Road closure

To enable the work to take place safely and for the contractors to access the site with their equipment, George Street will be closed between Wellesley Road and High Street between 20.00 and 01.00 on 23, 24 and 25 August. Signed diversion routes will be available. Pedestrian access will remain unaffected.

Thames Water Victorian mains replacement works

Thames Water Utilities has recently commenced a works programme to replace the existing Victorian cast iron water main network in parts of Croydon. You can find out more in the downloads at the bottom of the page. Further information can also be found on the Thames Water website (see associated link).
