London Borough of Croydon

Road closures and diversions

Why do roads need to be closed?

We run a rolling programme of road, footpath and street lighting maintenance and must periodically close roads to traffic and pedestrians for works and repairs. All road closures require a traffic management order (TMO) before any works can be undertaken.

Sometimes utility companies have to carry out maintenance work in Croydon which is unplanned and not fully under our control. The affected roads may have to be closed. These contractors are:

  • Thames Water
  • Telewest
  • British Telecom
  • EDF Energy
  • National Grid.

How long will it take?

Temporary closures can be in effect from 24 hours to up to 18 months.
