How to apply for a dropped kerb

You can apply for the kerb outside your home or business to be lowered to provide vehicle access to your drive or garage only.
 
Please read the information below before filling in the dropped kerb application form.

Before you send in the agreement form

If you would like to apply for a dropped kerb but are not the owner of the property, you will need a letter from the homeowner stating that he or she agrees to have the property altered to create a parking space.

You will also need planning approval if the property concerned:

• is used for commercial purposes
• is a flat
• is in multiple occupancy
• is on the list of classified roads (see word document below).

Please note that if there are lamp columns or other types of street furniture in the way of the proposed dropped kerb they can be removed but you will be charged for this additional work.

The agreement form

Before filling in the agreement form, please check whether you meet all the conditions listed on it.

Once you have filled in the form you must send a copy of the vehicle registration document and a cheque for £135.00 made payable to "London Borough of Croydon".

Please note that this payment covers both the processing of your application and the cost of providing an estimate for the works required. It is not refundable. If you do not meet all the conditions on the form do not send payment or return the form, as your application will not be granted.

What happens next?

We will contact you to arrange a visit to the site to:

• ensure it meets our criteria
• prepare an estimate for the work.

You will receive a written estimate (valid for three months) within three weeks of the site visit. Once you receive the estimate, please send a cheque for the relevant amount to the address below.

Work will normally start on the dropped kerb within eight weeks of receipt of payment.
