On street parking - know your restrictions
Red routes and other restrictions enforced by the police and traffic wardens
Most parking restrictions are enforced by Civil Enforcement Officers (CEOs). However, the following restrictions are enforced by the police and traffic wardens:
- parking on white ziz-zag markings, for example, on the approach to a pedestrian crossing
- double parking next to a car that is parked against the kerb
- parking that causes an obstruction on junctions not provided with yellow lines
- stopping on a red route, except within parking bays.
There are three red routes in Croydon: A22, A23 and A232. The red lines mean "No Stopping", with the following exceptions:
- red parking bays indicated by red box markings. There are several types - some allow short term free parking, others allow loading and unloading. The restrictions are indicated on nearby signs.
- white parking bays indicated by white box markings. Loading, unloading and parking are permitted within these any time of day. The rules are clearly indicated on the adjacent signs.
