Other parking restrictions

  • Motorcycle bays - some bays are marked for motorcycle parking only.
  • Loading bays - some bays are marked for loading or unloading from commercial vehicles only. No other vehicles may use these bays.
  • Taxi-ranks - these are clearly marked and signed, and their use is enforced by the council.
  • Doctors' parking bays - these are reserved for the use of doctors and are located outside doctors' surgeries. Doctors must apply to the Traffic and Parking division for these to be provided. There is an annual charge for a permit.
  • Disabled parking bays - these are reserved for Blue Badge holders (look under See Also for links).
  • Dropped kerbs and driveways - parking that causes an obstruction across a resident's driveway will be enforced at the request of the resident.

Other things to avoid

In addition to the obvious, such as yellow lines, avoid the following as penalties will be enforced by the council.

Don't park overhanging a parking bay. Make sure your vehicle is fully contained within the white bay markings. Failure to do so reduces the parking space in neighbouring bays and can obstruct a bordering driveway or junction.

Don't park in a council-operated car park at night without first checking to see if you need to pay. Some council car parks charge overnight as well as during daytime.

Don't park on the pavement or verge unless there are clear signs stating you can.

'No Stopping' means just that. You are not allowed to stop, even to set down or pick up passengers. In Croydon 'No Stopping' restrictions apply on all 'School Keep Clear' markings and bus stops defined with yellow markings. 'No Stopping' also applies to all red line markings on the A23 and A232 Red Routes.
