London Borough of Croydon

The Coulsdon Area Regeneration Strategy (SPG 20) provides a framework for future development and improvements of Coulsdon. It is a major part of the Improving Coulsdon Centre project, set up in 2002 by Croydon Council to maximise the environmental and economic benefits the new road will bring.

The main objectives of the strategy are to:

  • promote co-ordinated development within the town centre that benefits the community
  • support moves to create transport interchanges and road improvements to enhance access to the town centre
  • create or enhance parking areas and pedestrian links throughout the centre to make it easier to get around
  • re-design streets and create public spaces and focal points to improve Coulsdon's vitality and sense of identity
  • ensure developments meet high design and environmental sustainability standards.

The strategy is the first step in a joined-up approach that co-ordinates aspirations for the development of vacant buildings, train stations, roads, streets, paths and other sites in the town.

An action plan has been drawn up listing actions for developers, business, local people and other agencies to take on board to put the strategy into practice.

Copies of the Coulsdon Area Regeneration Strategy (SPG 20) will be available from the council's One Stop shop in Taberner House, at Coulsdon Library, by contacting urbandesign@croydon.gov.uk or using the contact details below. CD copies will be available for purchase at a cost of £5. Cheques should be made payable to Croydon Council.

The strategy is also downloadable. See the links below.
