Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) are orders made by Local Planning Authorities to protect trees and woodlands. The orders prevent trees being pruned without the formal permission of the Council. Generally, the trees have to be under threat or are considered important. The Local Planning Authority can protect individual trees, or trees that are in groups, areas or woodlands.
In order to get permission to carry out work on a protected tree you should complete the 'Application for Consent to carry out works to Protected Trees' or contact the Tree Officer
