Forms, fees and how to apply

When you apply for Building Regulations approval, there may be additional information that you need to supply and below we have set out the minimum guidelines. Of course, you can always send more if you have it and, in fact, more is always better! If you have any further queries, please contact us using the link on left-hand side.

Building Notice

  1. The application form must be signed and dated
  2. The correct fee must be attached - we accept cash, cheques, banker's drafts and postal orders but cannot accept card payments. Of course, you are advised against sending cash through the post.
  3. Attach a location or 'block' plan. If you are building an extension or new building you need to send a location plan and your application will not be valid without it. In other cases, it is not essential but will be of assistance to your building surveyor.
  4. You don't have to send any additional information unless you are installing cavity insulation or an unventilated hot water system, in which case you need to provide details of the installation and approval details of the installer. If you have any queries, please contact us using the link on left-hand side. However, you should be aware that you are required to provide such information as we need to assess the work that you propose doing. Should we require additional details we will contact you.

Full Plans

  1. The application form needs to be signed and dated
  2. The correct fee must be attached - we accept cash, cheques, banker`s drafts and postal orders. We can also accept card payments. Do not send cash through the post.
  3. Attach a location or 'block' plan. If you are building an extension or new building you need to send a location plan and your application will not be valid without it. In other cases, it is not essential but will be of assistance to your building surveyor.
  4. You need to supply any and all information that we need to determine whether or not your proposal meets the requirements of the Building Regulations. Generally, this means layout plans, cross sections and details of construction methods and materials. Additionally, if the work includes structural changes such as the removal of load bearing walls, formation of openings, loft conversion or installation of structural beams, then calculations will usually be required to justify the design.

Regularisation Application

Broadly speaking, the same applies as if you were submitting a Building Notice. However, please supply all information that you have as this will assist us in our assessment of the work. You can find more information at I didn't apply for building approval.

Remember

Whether or not you need Building Regulations approval, you may need Planning Permission.  The Planning Control section will be able to advise you in this matter.
