Victims of last week's disturbances are to benefit from a new fund-raising campaign launched by Croydon's Mayor, Councillor Graham Bass.
Like many local residents, and the wider public in general, the Mayor is determined to help those in the borough who have been directly affected.
As part of his charity, the Mayor has set up a new fund-raising page on the Just Giving website in support of Croydon's recovery.
Anyone wishing to give a donation can do so by logging on to www.justgiving.com/croydonsrecovery.
Alternatively, they donate by simply sending a text to 70070 including the charity's code CROY11 (for example: CROY11 £10). Using this method the minimum amount per donation is £1 and the maximum is £10. Donations by text can be made only in the amount of £1, £2, £3, £4, £5 and £10. All messages are free on all networks, and the Mayor's charity will receive 100% of every donation.
The mayor said:
"Like everybody in Croydon I was extremely disturbed by the events of last week. I was also deeply moved and heartened by the resilience and generosity of Croydon's residents who have rallied together in the aftermath to clean up the borough, and to help those who lost their homes and businesses.
"All help is appreciated and I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone for their generosity and for the community spirit they've shown through adversity. There's still a lot of work to do but we have an opportunity to help each other and to support the town we love. "
