Unfortunately we are not running the Croydon in Bloom competition or entering London in Bloom this year.
If you are part of a community group and would like to enter 'Its Your Neighbourhood' which is run by the Royal Horticultural Society then details are shown below.
The campaign supports local community groups in cleaning up and greening up their immediate local environment. Its a grassroots community gardening campaign helping to make lasting improvements to their local areas. Groups are supported in their activities with advise and guidance and receive annual feedback from expert IYN assessors, who provide tips on how further improvements can be made.
Joining the campaign is free and there is lots of information available online at www.rhs.org.uk/Gardening/Community-gardening/It-s-Your-Neighbourhood.
Croydon in Bloom 2010
Thank you to everyone who entered Croydon In Bloom 2010, your hard work helped us to secure a Champion of Champions Gold at the London in Bloom Awards 2010; the boroughs highest ever achievement.
We faced strong competition from Islington and the City of London and in the end the judges awarded all three boroughs a Gold with City of London being the category winners.
Croydon is one of London's greenest boroughs and was one of the first to get involved in the 'Bloom' campaign in the 1960's. The Bloom campaign is more than just flowers and plants, the judges want to see evidence of good conservation practices, a high standard of general cleanliness across the borough and most important, a strong sense of community and that everyone is getting involved in improving their borough.
The Mayor, Councillor Avril Slipper attended the awards, which were hosted by the City of London in the Guildhall and also collected awards in the following categories:
The London in Bloom Biodiversity Award
1st London Borough of Croydon
The London in Bloom Front Garden Award (sponsored by the Worshipful Company of Gardeners)
2nd 20 Carlton Avenue, London Borough of Croydon
