Space C Gallery

Space C is an intimate gallery located within the Croydon Clocktower complex and is available for exhibitions from artists and voluntary groups working with an artist.

Space C Gallery is available for arts exhibitions that:

• inspire the local community and visitors with their creativity and innovation
• educate about cultural diversity in imaginative ways
• directly involve people in the creative process*
• engage in outreach and audience development.

*involvement could be achieved at different stages: at concept, during creation of the work or interactively at the time of the exhibition.

Space C is programmed by an exhibition panel. The panel assesses how well proposals fulfil the bullet points listed above as well as their artistic merit, quality of delivery and contemporary approach.

Fees

• a hire fee of £50 per week is payable by exhibitors
• a fully-refundable deposit of £100 must be paid on return of the signed contract 
• the deposit will be withheld in part or full if the terms of the contract are broken or if the gallery is not made good after the exhibition has been removed (for example, walls may require refilling and/or repainting)
• fees are reviewed annually.

      Please note

• all exhibitions will be free to the public
• while artworks exhibited may be for sale, Croydon Council will have no involvement in any transactions arising from the sale of artworks and does not take commission.

Insurance

• the fee and contract do not include insurance for the artworks or public liability insurance for workshops or other activities planned to accompany the exhibition
• insurance to cover the artwork and invigilation (if required) must be arranged by the exhibitors.

Timetable

• exhibitions run for four weeks. 
• exhibitors will be given two days for installation
• exhibitors will be given two days to get out and make good – all holes must be filled and the gallery repainted as necessary.
• it may be possible to negotiate this schedule in special cases.

Interpretation and marketing

• exhibitors must supply interpretation material well in advance so that it can be approved by the Space C management team. This includes any posters and flyers being used for marketing and information boards and leaflets that will be available in the gallery
• the exhibition will be included in the Clocktower’s monthly and quarterly brochures
• posters and leaflets can be distributed free of charge in the Clocktower and all borough libraries if sufficient print is supplied.

Private view

• exhibitors may hold a private view in Space C and the court area outside of the gallery
• the date, time and structure of the private view must be agreed with the Space C management team at least two months in advance
• exhibitors may order refreshments from the Clocktower Café and/or the Balcony Bar 
• exhibitors are welcome to provide their own refreshments – no corkage will be charged
• there is no additional hire fee for private views.
