My Hood: CR7 - June 21 - July 21

The Foyer@Croydon, a supported housing project in Thornton Heath managed by Oasis UK and Broomleigh Housing Association, have been running a photography project in Thornton Heath for the last few weeks, utilising experienced socio photo journalist, Hazel Thompson. Ten students, young adults from the Thorton Heath area, will be exhibiting their work, which captures the heart of the local community and gives voice to an often misunderstood and stereotyped generation. Their work is of an excellent standard, really shows a borough with a heart  and is not to be missed.

The project is funded by Croydon Council Arts Funding, the Youth Opportunity Fund, Hinchley Trust and Clearworth.

From Shrine to Plinth - 26 July - 4 September

From Shrine to Plinth explores the life of the Hindu deity in the temple and the museum. It showcases four artworks that compare its conserved status as a valued artifact in the museum to its live divine presence, created by worshippers, in the temple. The artworks come alive with meaning when interacted with by its audience. This exhibition creates a multi-sensory and meditative environment to reflect upon and experience the cosmic sound of ‘Aum’, engage in a ritual and confront the life and death of stored gods.

The exhibition is the outcome of  Megha Rajguru's practice-based PhD research and is supported by the Centre for Research and Development of the University of Brighton.

Megha Rajguru's artworks are visual experiments exploring the relationship between humans and objects. Life and death of objects and mechanised people are ideas that form part of her work. The space around the artworks is a strong contributing factor in the meaning they emanate as it generates specific human behaviour. The space almost becomes a testing ground for certain human/object interactions.
