Museum of Croydon object handling sessions
We welcome school groups to the Museum of Croydon, temporary exhibition and Riesco Galleries.
To support teaching and learning in these galleries we offer a range of Handling and Taught Sessions to school and community groups.
Museum of Croydon Handling Sessions
We offer four 45 minute sessions to support teaching and learning in history at Key Stages 1-3:
- Victorians
- Britain in the 1920s and 1930s
- Britain during World War Two
- Britain since 1948
These sessions support Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) Schemes of Work.
They help students develop
- a greater understanding of what it was like to live in the past
- object handling and historical enquiry skills
Handling sessions begin with an introduction to the skills required to look at and investigate objects from the past. Students then practise these skills and feed back their findings to the whole group. Every student will get to handle an original object from the period they are studying.
We also offer extended document and object sessions which take a more in-depth look at the main themes for each period.
Riesco Gallery taught sessions
We offer taught sessions relating to the Riesco Gallery of Chinese ceramics. They support teaching and learning for Key Stages 1-3 in a range of subjects:
- art
- design and technology
- drama
- literacy
- history
- citizenship
