Exhibiting in the Clocktower Cafe

If you would like to exhibit in the in the Clocktower Café Gallery, please contact us using the details below.

Exhibition policy

The Clocktower Café Gallery is primarily dedicated to exhibiting the work of local artists. However, non-local art exhibitors will also be considered.

While we aim to have a programme varied in theme and media, please note that it is only possible to exhibit two-dimensional material.

Where possible, the theme will relate to the subject of the exhibition in the main Exhibition Gallery.

Museum staff will approve work submitted for exhibition.  They reserve the right to censor any material deemed controversial, offensive or which contravenes the council's equal opportunities policy.

Cost

Exhibitors pay £32.50 per week for the hire of the gallery.  All exhibitions run for eight weeks, making the total cost £260.

Cheques should be made payable to ‘London Borough of Croydon’ and hire fees must be paid by or on the date of installation.

A cancellation fee of 20 per cent will be charged if the exhibitor cancels within one month of the date of the exhibition installation.

The fee will be reviewed annually and therefore may alter between booking and installing the exhibition.  Future exhibitors will be informed as soon as any alterations are made.

Insurance

Insurance of all pieces exhibited in the space is at the discretion of the artist.  We strongly advise that exhibitors do take out insurance to cover theft and damage.  If exhibitors choose not to insure the exhibited works, they must sign a disclaimer.

The café area does not have a permanent security presence, although it is patrolled regularly by security staff.  The café area is locked when the café is closed, however the tea terrace outside is open until the Clocktower closes.

We advise that all exhibits are in glazed frames, this may help keep insurance premiums down.

If exhibitors choose to insure their pieces, a copy of the certificate of insurance must be given to museum staff before the installation of the exhibition.

Responsibilities of exhibitors

The exhibitors must

  • deliver the exhibits to the Clocktower on a date and time agreed in advance with museum staff
  • be present at the hang in order to agree the display
  • produce all labels to accompany the exhibition
  • provide information about the exhibition to be included in the main Clocktower events programme.  Marketing staff reserve the right to edit the information provided at their discretion.

All the works must be framed and mounted with mirror plates prior to delivery to the Clocktower.  Mirror plates should be attached centrally using flat-headed Phillips screws.

Our marketing staff will produce and display posters for the exhibition within the Clocktower complex.  Exhibitors must provide any images that they wish to be included in the poster no later than one month before the opening of the exhibition.

If exhibits are for sale, exhibitors must provide museum staff with a reasonable quantity of price lists.

After the close of the exhibition, exhibitors must remove the exhibits as soon as possible on a date and time agreed in advance with the museum staff.

Exhibitors must remove their pieces from Croydon Clocktower within one month of the closure of the exhibition.  Museum staff reserve the right to dispose of any uncollected exhibits, as they see fit, after one month.
