Books on prescription
What is the Books on Prescription Scheme?
The Books on Prescription Scheme has been launched by the Healthy Croydon Partnership between Croydon Primary Care Trust (PCT) and Croydon Libraries. The scheme aims to help borough residents with mild to moderate mental health issues, for example, panic attacks, eating disorders, anger or obsessive behaviours, by offering GPs the opportunity to prescribe to their patients self-help guides available from the libraries.
Do I have to be a member of the library to borrow one of the Books on Prescription?
Yes. However, if you are not a member of the library just bring one item of recent ID showing your name and address and you can join straightaway. If you have a book prescription from your GP this can serve as your ID to join.
How long can I borrow a Books on Prescription book?
If you have your book prescription from the GP with you at the library you can borrow a book for eight weeks.
If you do not have your book prescription with you the loan period is four weeks.
Where can I find the Books on Prescription books?
In the Healthy Living Section of all 13 Croydon libraries.
What if the book I have been prescribed by my GP is not available when I go to the library?
The library staff will reserve you a copy from another library - free of charge.
Do I have to give my book prescription to the library staff?
The libraries would appreciate you depositing your book prescription with them when you borrow a book so that the scheme can be evaluated. However, it is not compulsory to do so. All personal details will be kept confidential.
