If you want to borrow from Croydon Libraries, you first have to become a member. There is no charge for this and you do not have to live in Croydon.
How to join if you are 16 and over
Take one official document with your name and address on it to any Croydon library eg driving licence, allowance book, bank statement.
- You will be issued with a membership card and asked to sign it.
- When you sign your membership card, you are agreeing to abide by the byelaws of Croydon Libraries.
You will be able to borrow up to:
- 9 books - no charge
- 9 audio items - for which there is a charge
- 6 videos or DVDs or CD-ROMs - for which there is a charge
- Use the link on the left panel for charges
- The return date will be stamped on each item borrowed.
- If they are not returned or renewed by this date, overdue charges will be made.
If you are a childminder or you are educating a child at home in
Croydon, you can apply for a special membership card.
How to join if you are under 16
No-one is too young to join the library. All libraries have a range of books and activities for children and young people.
Your parent or carer needs to take one official document with their current name and address on it to any Croydon library eg driving licence, allowance book, bank statement.
- You will be issued with a membership card and your parent or carer will be asked to sign it.
- Your parent or carer will be responsible for all items borrowed on your membership card and for any charges you incur.
You will be able to borrow
- Up to 9 items including books and children's audio items. No charge is made for this.
- You will not be able to borrow videos, DVDs or music CDs.
- We will not charge you for overdue children's books and audio items. However, it is still very important to bring them back on time, as other people may want them too.
How to renew your library membership
- Your library membership card is valid for two years. After that, we will ask you if you are still living at the same address, before renewing your card.
- If at any time you move to a new address, you will need to show one official document with your current name and address on it eg driving licence, allowance book, bank statement.
What to do if you lose your library membership card
If you think you have lost your library membership card, contact us straightaway and we will cancel your card.
- You are responsible for all the items taken out on your card. If you lose it, and someone else uses it to borrow items, you will be asked to pay for them if they are not returned.
- To get another membership card, take one official document with your current name and address on it to any Croydon library eg driving licence, allowance book, Council Tax letter or bank statement.
- You will be charged for the replacement card.
