Croydon Libraries’ Book Trail

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go."  Dr. Seuss, "I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!"

2008 is National Year of Reading. It’s a chance for everyone to read more and to share the pleasures of reading. Joining the Book Trail is a great way to do this. Look out for other activities at each library in the download below.

Babies and Toddlers – Come and join the Book Crawl

Share six or more library books with your child and get a gorgeous certificate – to be presented at a special under 5s session in the library in September. Join in a Book Crawl morning, once a week at each library, where your baby or toddler can participate in the ever popular Rhymetime and Wiggle & Jiggle sessions as well as the Book Crawl. Check the download below for details of sessions at each library.

Children of all ages – Get on the Book Trail

The variety of books on the Book Trail means there's something for everyone to enjoy. For each book you read you either answer a few questions or write a short review. Just bring your library card in and ask to join the Book Trail at any time between Monday 21 July and Saturday 23 August. There are special rewards (badges, pencils and vouchers to borrow a DVD) along the way to keep you going. Also, every child taking part will get a certificate – often presented at their school - and be entered in the grand prize draw.

For Teenagers – Teen Summer Reads

Teen Summer Reads works like a library reward card. Read any six books and write a short review for each and you'll get a voucher to borrow a DVD for free. It’s a great opportunity to try some of the new and up-and-coming authors for young people.

To take part in any of these activities you and your child must have a library card. To join, just present your local library with some ID that has your name and address on it, for example, a driving licence or phone bill. It only takes a couple of minutes to join.

If your children are aged 12-15, they can get a Teen Library Card - so get them to come in, too!

See the download below for further details of Book Trail opening times and activity times at your local library.
