Volunteering

London 2012 will depend upon up to 70,000 volunteers to make the Games run smoothly and successfully.

London 2012 is currently developing its volunteer programme to ensure that volunteers are trained and ready to go for 2012.

Recruitment will start in 2010 and will seek applicants from across the UK - from a range of communities and backgrounds -who meet the criteria and bring passion, enthusiasm and energy to the Games.

Previous volunteering experience is not necessary.

If you would like to register your interest in volunteering at the Games go to the 2012 Volunteering associated link.

But why wait until 2010. There are lots of charities and community and sporting organisations that are looking for volunteers to help them. For more information about how to volunteer locally see the Croydon Volunteer Centre associated link.

The Games will also create up to 11,000 jobs, with opportunities in construction, leisure, hospitality, tourism, transport and media.

Personal Best Programme

The Personal Best Programme is an employability project that capitalises on the exciting volunteering opportunities for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It encourages unemployed residents of Croydon to gain new skills, take up volunteering opportunities, achieve a nationally recognised qualification, raise their aspirations and help them get a job.

The Personal Best adviser will be based at various community settings throughout Croydon. The adviser will be able to help you with your CV, interview techniques, application forms and job search and provide free advice and guidance on employment, training and volunteering opportunities.

Participants successfully completing the programme will gain a Level 1 qualification in Public Event Volunteering.
