As part of the Heritage Lottery Fund's Heathland Promotion Project, Croydon Council's Arts and Parks departments worked together to produce an art exhibition promoting Croydon's Heathland.
Artists and photographers from all over the borough were invited to attend guided walks through Croydon's Heathland conservation areas. They then produced inspirational images to celebrate this declining landscape.
We featured their stunning works in an exhibition in Croydon Clocktower in Autumn 2006. We also turned two of the most captivating images into postcards - these were distributed free of charge throughout the borough.

Classic Heathland is covered mainly by low growing shrubs, such as heather (ling) and gorse. In the summer it provides stunning colour displays of purple and yellow. Heathland is a manmade habitat, created through grazing and tree clearance in the past. Croydon's main heath sites are on Addington Hills and Croham Hurst.
