Cycling
Designated cycle paths
We have designated cycle paths in:
- Parkfields
- Milne Park
- Shirley Heath
- South Norwood Country Park
We are planning more cycle paths, but installing hard surfaces in green spaces is not popular. We intend to trial shared paths using discrete signage, so as not to detract from each park's character.
Children's cycle areas
There are children's cycle areas at:
- Hares Bank, Addington Vale
- Sanderstead Recreation Ground.
We have installed these areas to provide parents with a safe place away from the public highway where they can take young children to cycle.
BMX users
BMX users can use the skate facilities at:
- Rotary Field
- Wandle Skate Park
Where cycling is not allowed
Cycling is not permitted in any other places in parks under the bylaws. However, we will use our discretion in enforcing this in most parks, as long as cyclists are not endangering other park users or damaging the park.
We will enforce the no-cycling bylaw in the ornamental gardens in the following locations:
- Chaldon Way Gardens
- Coombe Wood
- Grangewood Park
- Haling Grove
- Heathfield
- Norbury Hall
- Norwood Grove
- Park Hill Recreation Ground
- The Queens Gardens
- Trumble Gardens
- Waddon Ponds
- Wettern Tree Garden
- Whitehorse Road Recreation Ground
It would also be enforced at Addington Hills. This area is an extremely fragile environment. It has been identified as being of major importance by leading ecology groups and organisations, mainly due to the rare heather on its thin soils.
