Help for older and vulnerable people

Staying Put helps older, disabled or other vulnerable people who need advice and assistance to carry out minor repairs or major adaptations to their homes.

How can we help you?

We will:

  • visit you home and assess the repairs/adaptations needed,
  • discuss payment for the work and arrange for any grants or loans to meet the cost. You may pay for the work yourself, or if you are entitled we can apply for a grant to pay for the work or any alternative sources of funding,
  • arrange for the work specifications to be prepared,
  • organise trustworthy builders to do the work.

How much will it cost?

  • Cost of works = £0 - £5,000, the fee will be 10% + VAT.
  • Cost of works = over £5,000, the fee will be 15% + VAT.

Where the works are paid for by a grant, a fee is charged. This is normally covered by the grant. Fees are calculated on the final costs of completed works before VAT.

What repair work/adaptations can be done?

  • repairs to a leaking roof,
  • damp-proofing and rewiring,
  • loft and other insulation,
  • structural work,
  • bathroom fixtures and fittings - for example, installing a shower,
  • downstairs WC and washing facilities,
  • rearrangement of rooms for easier access.
