Croydon's Housing Advice Service
The Housing Advice Service can give advice to:
- Owner occupiers
- Private tenants
- Housing Association tenants (non council)
- Landlords
We can give advice about:
- Tenancy issues;
- Notices to Quit;
- The rights of tenants;
- The rights and obligations of landlords;
- Harassment;
- Welfare Benefits.
We can write letters to landlords on behalf of tenants, explaining the rights of tenants, and will explain to tenants the rights and obligations of their landlords. We can also give advice to tenants on filling in a claim form for possession
We generally insist that tenants exercise all their legal rights, including waiting for Possession Orders when they are entitled to do so. The cost of providing temporary accommodation for people to whom we have a legal duty is enormous and leaves us no choice but to postpone homelessness when ever reasonably possible.
In addition to questions about security of tenure, Housing Advice can give advice on:
- Disrepair, when we often liaise with Environmental Health;
- Failure to return deposits at the end of a tenancy;
- Rent increases;
- Rent arrears;
- Mortgage arrears;
- Relationship breakdown;
- Housing rights;
Housing Advisers can advise you on benefits to claim to ensure you are receiving your maximum entitlement and may telephone Housing Benefit staff to ask about the reason for a delay in payment of Housing Benefit.
